Carol Pabonz
Secretary
Rev. Carol Pobanz is a multi-faceted individual. She is, first and foremost, a spiritual leader, who has been involved in ministry work for more than 30 years. She served as Pastor to the Clifton Family Church for seven years but refuses to be defined solely in terms of traditional church ministry. She has organized and guided interreligious service and art-based service projects as a staff member of the Universal Peace Federation/Religious Youth Service in the USA, Europe, Central America and in the Caribbean. She founded PeaceIN, which is a cultural exchange project aimed at building international friendships and facilitating peace through communal arts. Carol has also served as a Spiritual Care Coordinator for Hospice of New Jersey, which specializes in providing end-of-life care to terminal patients and their families. Additionally, and perhaps most important, Carol is a devoted wife, and a mother to four grown sons, and a grandma to two grandchildren. She is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art (aka The University of the Arts) as well as of the Unification Theological Seminary. She is a founding member of Y Service North Jersey.
Y Service Club History
It had been a rough time in the World as people were recovering from the effects of World War I and the Spanish Flu Pandemic in 1920. Seventeen Veterans met together at the Toledo (Ohio) YMCA to come up with ways to assist the YMCA both in their home as well as overseas, provide financial support and volunteer opportunities. In 1922, the one club became seventeen clubs (located in America and Canada) and the name became the International Association of Y’s Men. As more clubs were added, the organization became more International with the addition of Shanghai China then Europe, Australia, and Japan clubs.
While this Service Organization focused on Community Needs (local and International) as well as support of YMCAs, it had to survive political conflict in countries (such as Japan invading China), the Great Depression, World War II, Korean Conflict, Middle East Conflicts, numerous Natural Disasters, and internal changes.
Over the years, we have provided millions of dollars in aide from help in rebuilding in war torn countries, assisting with the immediate needs of refugees, helping immigrants settle, providing food, shelter, training, providing safe and meaningful places for youth, meeting medical needs, provide funds for malaria prevention and aide for those in underserved communities. For indeed, we are a Service Club providing Service where it is needed. We are now in 75 Countries, 1,532 Clubs, and have 23,044 members and work directly with United Nations as an NGO (Non-Government Organization).
